SENIOR FINANCIAL PLANNER / FOUNDER

In addition to providing coordinated financial planning to our clients who own businesses or have other complex needs, Al leads the firm in its strategic direction. A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER TM  professional, he started the firm in 2010 out of a desire for a more comprehensive and flexible approach to support people in achieving their financial dreams. Al is also an Enrolled Agent, a designation provided by the IRS. Prior to starting his own firm, Al’s career was based in banking including work as a business banker, private banking manager, and bank regional director.  He has served as President of the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners and as President of the Land of Sky Estate Planning Council. 

Al has been active in the Asheville community for many years serving on the boards of Asheville Community Theater, UNC Asheville Foundation, and Asheville Parks and Greenways Foundation. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Asheville and is also a long-time supporter and volunteer with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC. 

He graduated from Appalachian State University earning a degree in business administration and holds an MBA from The University of Tennessee. He lives in Asheville with his family and enjoys hiking, travelling, reading and spending time with this family.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL PLANNING / PARTNER

Anne sees her role as being a partner to her clients as they navigate life changes. Whether its buying a home, or experiencing divorce or widowhood Anne supports clients in adjusting their goals and plans as life happens. In addition to educating and advising clients, Anne leads our team of financial planners and planning associates. She started with our team in 2013 as an Associate Planner and earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation three years later. Before joining Davis Financial Planning, Anne was a professional librarian at museum and academic libraries. 

She is a member of the Women for Women Giving Circle, a grant making organization here in Asheville. Anne serves on both the grants and membership committees. She also serves on the Student Membership Committee of the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners to support the next generation of financial planners.

Anne has a B.A. in Religion from Gettysburg College and a Masters in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Anne lives in Weaverville with her dog. She enjoys reading (go figure!), hiking, Pilates, and kayaking.

RICK BROWN CFP®, EA

LEAD FINANCIAL PLANNER / PARTNER

Rick enjoys helping clients put a financial plan in place that gives them peace of mind making current and future financial decisions. He has a particular knack for achieving this balance for those with young families as they navigate competing financial priorities. An educator at heart and by training, Rick takes time to answer questions and explain options in easy to understand terms. In addition to earning the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER mark, Rick is also an Enrolled Agent, which allows him to communicate with the IRS on behalf of clients should the need arise. 

Rick joined our team in 2016 as a Financial Planning Associate after a 10-year career in education here in Asheville where he taught all levels of mathematics including AP Calculus. As a teacher, he enjoyed incorporating financial literacy concepts into the classroom at an early age. Prior to teaching, Rick worked with at-risk youth in foster care and residential treatment group homes. 

He is a graduate of Pepperdine University with a degree in Business Administration. When not supporting our clients, he hikes, mountain bikes, plays water polo and tennis, and enjoys exploring Asheville and the surrounding mountains with his wife and two children.  Rick serves as a member of the Finance Committee with Evergreen Charter School.

TAYLOR NESBITT

FINANCIAL PLANNING ASSOCIATE

Taylor provides key support for our lead planners as a Financial Planning Associate. In client meetings, she acts as an extra set of eyes and ears to ensure all the details are captured. Outside of client planning sessions, Taylor handles documentation, data entry, updates financial planning documents, and conducts research to help ensure our clients and our team have up-to-date and accurate information. 

Taylor joined our team in 2018 as an intern and was hired full-time after graduating from Western Carolina University with a degree in Financial Planning. Originally expecting to pursue accounting, she discovered that financial planning allows her to utilize her analytical skills, attention to detail, and desire to support others in achieving their life goals. Before joining Davis Financial Planning, Taylor held a number of positions working in retail and as a teller at Asheville Savings Bank.  

Taylor lives in Marion with her husband, child, and dogs. Outside of work, she is a competitive stock car racer. 

SONYA SPAKE

CLIENT SERVICES MANAGER

As our Client Services Manager, Sonya, is the one who truly keeps the office running on a day-to-day basis from scheduling appointments to opening accounts. She joined our team in 2017 bringing a wealth of experience in administrative and management roles in area medical practices and a local accounting firm. 

If you have talked with Sonya, you probably wouldn’t guess that she’s actually a shy person! She learned early how to stretch herself and become more outgoing. Her first job at age 16 was in a local grocery store where she quickly moved into an administrative assistant role for the district manager tasked with making phone call after phone call. Her desire to help things run smoothly for her team has driven her throughout her career.

Sonya lives in Mills River with her husband. She has two adult children and one much loved grand dog. Sonya has a heart for service and is passionate about mission trips to an orphanage in Africa.

ADRIANNE GORDON

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

As our Operations Director, Adrianne focuses on the systems, tools, and processes needed to achieve our long and short-term goals.  She is also responsible for our marketing and human resources. Prior to joining our team in 2020, Adrianne spent seven years in a similar role for three local companies with shared ownership. Her career also includes over a decade of service to the small business community through roles with the Small Business & Technology Development Center and Grove Arcade Public Market Foundation. 

Adrianne and her family have called Asheville home for more than 20 years. During that time she has served on the Buncombe County Women’s Commission, helped form a local organization for doulas, and served on the Board of Directors for an area charter school. She is active in the certified B Corporation community locally and nationally. 

She is a graduate of Warren Wilson College and has an MBA from Western Carolina University. Adrianne is also an avid Carolina Panthers fan.
